HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 51-year-old man died following a motor vehicle collision on North King Street in Kalihi, the Honolulu Police Department said.
The collision originally occurred on Oct. 4 at about 7:48 p.m. when the man lost control of the electric scooter he was operating, HPD said.
He collided with a roadway stanchion, which launched him onto the raised center median, authorities said.
It is not known how he lost control, investigators said. He was not wearing a helmet.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services initially transported the man to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner notified police on Oct. 13 that the man died from his injuries, HPD said.
This marks the 67th traffic fatality on Oʻahu compared to 35 at the same time in 2024.
