Man, 65, arrested after allegedly biting, assaulting HPD officers

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 65-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting police officers on the morning of Oct. 7, the Honolulu Police Department said.

Police initially made contact with the man when they responded to a report of a man allegedly damaging an abandoned Waikīkī unit at around 6:25 a.m., officials said.

HPD officers arrived at the scene and attempted to detain the man, who then allegedly became combative and assaulted three officers, police said. According to HPD, one officer was bit during the altercation.

Officers then deployed OC spray and apprehended the suspect, investigators said.

One officer was taken to the hospital while the other two were treated at the scene. Charges have not yet been filed, but will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
