Man, 69, dead in Kaumuali‘i Highway motorcycle crash

ʻŌMAʻO, Kauaʻi (KHON2) — On Friday, Oct. 10, a motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Kaumuali‘i Highway. This accident is Kaua‘i’s sixth traffic fatality of 2025.

Officials said the collision happened around 4:45 p.m. when an SUV driver, a 64-year-old female, made a left turn onto Kaumuali‘i Highway from ʻŌma‘o Road.

While executing the left turn, the SUV was struck by a 69-year-old motorcyclist who was traveling eastbound on the highway.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist had sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to those injuries after being transported to Wilcox Medical Center, reports said.

It was reported that the SUV driver didn’t sustain any injuries.

During the Kaua‘i Police Department’s on-scene investigation, Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed for 2.5 hours in both directions.

In conclusion, officials said that speed appears to have contributed to the collision. It is still undecided if alcohol or drugs also played a role; toxicology results are pending.
