Man accused of causing crash that killed woman, infant charged

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The man accused of crashing into a family vehicle on Hawaiʻi Island resulting in the death of two people, including an infant, was charged with multiple crimes on Oct. 30.

Kimo Medeiros, 43, was charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of negligent homicide and two drug-related charges.

The accident occurred on Daniel K. Inouye Highway near Hilo, when Medeiros allegedly crashed his truck into another packed vehicle. One person in the other vehicle, a 47-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medeiros and the remaining occupants of the other vehicle were hospitalized from their injuries, with a 3-week-old infant eventually succumbing to her injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody on Oct. 28, with the Hawaiʻi Police Department serving as the lead agency. Medeiros is being held on more than $1.5 million bail.
