PAHOA, Hawaii (KHON2) — A Puna man who attempted to kill his wife in their Nanawale Estates home has been indicted following his initial court appearance.
Seventy-seven-year-old Lowell Pofahl was charged with attempted murder, abuse of a family or household member and firearm offenses.
Hawaii Island police arrested Pofahl on Friday, Nov. while responding to a late-night domestic incident. Dispatch received a call from “a male identifying himself as Pofahl” stating he had tried to kill his wife.
Upon arrival, police found the 76-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood with severe life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull, brain bleed, concussion and more.
She was transported to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.
Police also recovered various weapons from the home, which were reportedly used to “beat and injure the victim.”
According to Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen, the court reduced Pofahl’s bail from $1.65 million to $1 million.
