Maui fire officials contain heavy brush, vegetation fire in Waiehu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Maui Fire Department officials responded to a heavy brush and vegetation fire in Waiehu.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency issued an alert on Friday warning residents of heavy smoke in the area.


City says this summer will be hotter than normal, encouraging residents to take action

Officials said the fire started just before 1 p.m. near Kahekili Highway and Waiehu Beach Road.

Residents were asked to avoid the area and “monitor radio, TV, and mobile devices for official information.”

Shortly before 3 p.m., MEMA announced the fire was fully contained.

Reports said MFD crews remained on the scene for “mop up and final extinguishment.”
