Maui Countyʻs parks department has applied for emergency permits to remove the structure.

Meanwhile, the public is asked to avoid the fenced off structure.

The surrounding area may also be harmful as debris from the structure could be moved around by wave action.

“The Department is committed to minimizing the impact on the surrounding area, including marine life and coastal ecosystems, while ensuring the structureʻs removal is completed efficiently,” the departmentʻs director, Patrick McCall said in a news release.
