MCBH releases statement on death of service member dependent

HONOLULU (KHON2) — An investigation is currently in progress at Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi following the reported death of a service member’s dependent on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The 1st Marine Aircraft Wing has acknowledged the incident and is cooperating fully with both Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) who is leading the investigation.

MCBH released a statement regarding the incident and the ensuing investigation:

“Currently, all we can release is that 1st Marine Aircraft Wing is aware of an incident on Sept. 1 that resulted in the death of a service member’s dependent. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and local authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the command is fully cooperating with that investigation. No further information is available at this time.”

NCIS has stated that no charges have been filed at this moment, although an individual is in custody.
