MFD Battalion Chief accused of continuous sexual assault of minor

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Maui firefighter, Shawn Rogers, faces multiple charges of sexual assault involving a minor under the age of 14.

Rogers, a battalion chief and a 24-year veteran of the department, was arrested earlier this week and has since been released on $150,000 bail.

His next court appearance is set for June 12 for arraignment.

Maui Fire Chief Brad Ventura expressed deep concern over the allegations, stating that Rogers is not scheduled to work this week and that the department will assess the situation.

His full statement read:

Today, the County of Maui was made aware that Shawn Rogers (52), a 25-year veteran of the Department of Fire and Public Safety, was arrested and charged for Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Continuous Sexual Assault of a Minor under 14 years old.  We are deeply concerned about the allegations regarding one of our firefighters. Mr. Rogers is not scheduled to work this week and we will continue to evaluate this situation as more information is available.

According to the indictment, there are two counts the court has documented.

Count one describes Rogers’ assault around Nov. 6, 2019 through Nov. 5 2021 when the minor female was under 14.

Count two accounts for the continuation of the assault from Nov. 6 2021 through April 27, 2022, when the victim was no longer under the age of 14 but not older than the age of 16.
