HONOLULU (KHON2) — More funding is heading to Maui to address ongoing recovery efforts following the wildfires.
Governor Green signed a bill Thursday setting aside about $385 million in emergency appropriations for fire relief.
Gov. Green added of the 13,000 people displaced by the wildfires, 8,000 ended up in hotel rooms.
As of now 78% of those individuals have been moved into condos or rentals.
“We have a very diverse community especially in the neighbor islands where there are people from all walks of life, some who have been here five generations, some who have been here five years, but they still lived in Lahaina and they still lost and suffered so much so we wanted to care for them”
Governor Green
He also announced a new climate advisory team that will analyze natural disaster risks across the islands.
