According to the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, more than 90% of visitors who took the survey rated Hawaii as “excellent” or “above average” when it comes to being a safe and secure destination.

Those surveyed included visitors traveling from various destinations including U.S. West, U.S. East, Canada, Japan, Oceania, Korea and China in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Hawaii Tourism Authority Board Chair Mufi Hannemann stated, “I have always believed, in every position that I have held, that ensuring the safety and security of our residents and visitors is a top priority. Hawaii’s aloha spirit and commitment to public safety reinforces our reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for travelers from around the globe.”

The survey also revealed that most visitors were “very likely” to return to the State of Hawaii in the next five years. However, similar to previous quarters, all markets cited Hawaii’s high vacation costs as the biggest barrier for visitors trying to return within time a period like that.
