The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) reported that the crash occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. when the motorcyclist rear-ended a 35-year-old male motorist traveling westbound.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the roadway, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time, succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, was not injured and remained at the scene.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, though it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.

The HPD’s Traffic Division and Vehicular Homicide Section are investigating the fatality, which marks the 44th traffic-related death on Oahu this year, compared to 51 fatalities at this time in 2023.
