HONOLULU KHON2) — Last night, Sept. 20, a fatal motor vehicle accident occurred, causing Oahu’s 62nd traffic fatality of 2025. A different accident left a pedestrian in critical condition.
At approximately 8:16 p.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision happened in the Waimanalo area. The victim was a 30-year-old male operating a utility task vehicle, HPD reported.
Officials said the utility task vehicle was traveling northbound on Hihimanu Street when it drove through the intersection of Kalanianaole Highway, disregarding a posted stop sign.
As a result, the utility task vehicle collided with a 74-year-old motorist who was traveling eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway. The collision caused the utility task vehicle to roll over and the 30-year-old male was ejected onto the roadway, official reports said.
HFD reported both drivers were taken to an area hospital—the 74-year-old male motorist in serious condition and the 30-year-old male in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
At the same time last year, Oahu had only 31 traffic fatalities in 2024.
Officials report that it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol were involved; the investigation is ongoing.
