HONOLULU (KHON2) — With the holidays right around the corner, it might be tempting to find extra ways to make money outside of your day job.
There’s no need (or desire) to pick up another full-time job, so here’s some resources available locally to begin your side gig that is not as strenuous as a typical 9-to-5.
Got some spare baby supplies?
BabyQuip is a website that allows people, typically tourists, to rent baby equipment for the duration of their trip. Supplies such as strollers, cribs, toys, beach equipment and more are a hot commodity on this website — and you can make money renting these items out to tourists.
If your keiki have already outgrown some baby supplies, turn it into some passive income.
If your car seats or high chairs are still clean and safe for use, sign up to be a provider on BabyQuip so you can make some money while helping a baby enjoy their vacation.
BabyQuip is available on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi and Maui. Providers average approximately $1,000 a month, according to BabyQuip.
Love dogs and other animals?
Walk dogs with Wag!
If you love pups and want to spend more time with them, you can get paid to walk dogs on Wag!. The dog care service is available throughout the islands and vets their caretakers.
Pay varies on the walk type, with walkers also having the ability to earn tips. Walking a furry friend through the Hawaiian paradise is probably one of the nicest ways to make some extra pocket change!
Love pets even more? You can dog or cat sit through the app too. Welcome pets into your home or get booked to stay in someone else’s home whether they’re visiting family on a Neighbor Island or on vacation.
Pet sitting three times a week can add up to a couple hundred extra dollars a month, Wag! said.
Have some extra outdoor space?
It’s no secret that a large chunk of Hawaiʻi residents — especially in urban Honolulu — live in apartments or condos. These living spaces don’t always come with outdoor areas for dogs to frolic in, either.
That’s where SniffSpot comes in. SniffSpot allows people to serve as hosts, where they can provide a private dog park for furry friends.
Not all outdoor spaces permit dogs in Hawaiʻi, so a nice backyard or similar space is a hot commodity for the islands’ pups. Or maybe you’re providing a nice, solitary play space for a dog that gets a bit nervous around other animals. Either way, SniffSpot provides people with a way to earn passive income while making a pooch’s day.
Hosts can earn up to $3,000 a month according to SniffSpot by using the yards they already have. Additionally, SniffSpot provides host protection insurance and damage protection.
Dogs are required to be fully vaccinated and on a flea or parasite preventative to book with SniffSpot, and pet parents are required to clean up after their animals.
You don’t need to be present for the SniffSpot play date either — just go about your usual tasks while the dogs have fun and you make some extra cash.
Old reliable: Delivery apps
Apps like DoorDash and Instacart are always looking for new drivers to add to their fleets.
Both apps allow users to sign up to run errands for people, typically food delivery via DoorDash and grocery delivery with Instacart.
Applicants to either app must be older than 18 in order to start earning. Payment depends on things like order size, distance and other factors, with each order from either app paying out individually.
You can be your own boss and schedule delivery shifts for yourself during your free time or whenever you are available to get your holiday hustle on.
On top of flat rates, both apps offer tip options for their drivers.
