HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for portions of the state due to continuous strong winds and low relative humidity.
Leeward portions of the state and interior sections of Hawaii Island were placed under Red Flag Warning on Thursday, July 31.
The original warning was set to expire at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1. However, state emergency officials have since extended the warning to Saturday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, Oahu and Kauai could see 15 to 30 MPH winds with gusts up to 35 MPH. Maui County and Hawaii Island could experience gusts up to 50 MPH.
Officials added that winds should begin declining on Sunday, but “critical fire weather conditions are expected as dry weather persists over leeward areas.”
The public is advised to continue taking precautions, as Red Flag Warnings typically mean critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.
