Officer involved crash in Kalihi leaves man in serious condition

KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — A man is in serious condition following a crash in Kalihi, which involved a Honolulu police officer.

According to Honolulu Police Department, the incident happened on June 3 around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Aoao St. and Kamehameha IV Rd.

HPD said an on-duty police officer was attempting to turn left from Aoao St. onto Kamehameha IV Rd. when they hit a 21-year-old male motorcyclist who was heading north.

As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist was thrown onto the road.

Paramedics with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and took the motorcyclist to the hospital in serious condition.

Officials said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The HPD officer was not injured as a result of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
