Ole Miss duo Kapena Gushiken and De’Zhaun Stribling stands out in week 9

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Two players with Hawaiʻi ties made an impact for Ole Miss this week. De’Zhaun Stribling, a former Kapolei High School standout, recorded three receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown in the Rebels’ 48–35 loss to Georgia.

On defense, Kapena Gushiken, who played at Kamehameha Schools’ Maui, finished with six total tackles, including four solo stops and two assists.

Both athletes continue to contribute on opposite sides of the ball for Ole Miss, representing Hawaiʻi in the Southeastern Conference.

There are more than 120 players playing across the country who list Hawaii as their home state. There are just a few of the notable performances from this past weekend:

Tevarua Tafiti, linebacker, Stanford (Waipahu, HI)
Recorded five total tackles, four of them solo, including one assist and one tackle for loss, in a 13-30 win over Florida State.

Aiden Manutai, defensive back, Cal (Waipahu, HI)
Recorded four total tackles, all solo, in an 18-21 win over UNC.

Teitum Tuioti, linebacker, Oregon (Laʻie, HI)
Recorded three total tackles, one of them solo, including a tackle for loss and a sack, in a 56-10 win over Rutgers.

Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele, quarterback, Cal (Ewa Beach, HI)
Went 21-of-39 passing for a total of 209 yards, including one touchdown in an 18-21 win over UNC.

Titus Mokiao-Atimalala, wide receiver, UCLA (Ewa Beach, HI)
Recorded six receptions for a total of 102 yards in a 17-20 win over Maryland.
