WAIKIKI, Hawaii (KHON2) — If you are a hula dancer looking for your next gig, ʻAuana by Cirque Du Soleil may have the opportunity for you.
ʻAuana was unveiled at the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel in December 2024 as the first resident show created for Hawaii.
After completing over 100 shows, the Cirque Du Soleil team is looking to expand their talent by hosting an open casting call on Monday, March 17.
Officials said they are searching for those proficient in hula kahiko and hula auana styles.
One hula dancer, Keoni Brache, shared his journey to the ʻAuana stage with KHON2’s Chris Latronic.
Brache spent five years working behind the desk in hospital administration before taking the opportunity to make a name for himself on the big stage.
“When this opportunity presented itself, you know, why not take it? Life is short so just do what you love to do and why not get paid for it?” Brache said.
Auditions will be guided by ʻAuana choreographer and renowned hula practitioner kumu hula Hiwa Vaughan and kumu of halau hula Ka Lehua Tuahine.
Each candidate will get the opportunity to showcase their ability to perform show choreography, improvisation and artistic exploration.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and local to Oahu with valid U.S. citizenship or a green card.
They must also be available for on-call contracts with nightly availability between Wednesday through Sunday of each week.
