Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on South Kihei Road

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 48-year-old Kihei man was killed Tuesday night in a hit-and-run collision on South Kihei Road.

The incident occurred around 8:36 p.m. The victim is said to have been walking north along the road’s northbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle is described as a possible silver or gray Toyota pickup truck and was also traveling north.

After the crash, the driver fled the scene without stopping to help.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. At this time, authorities have not determined whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the incident.
