Plan ahead: HFD urge caution after multiple hiker rescues

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Fire Department responded to several hikers in distress this week.

Most recently, on July 25, HFD was called to Koko Head trail after it was reported that an 8-year-old boy had fallen and suffered a possible head injury while hiking with his family.

A HFD chopper was able to airlift the boy off the trail and was transferred to Emergency Medical Services, where he was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

This follows another incident on July 22, where HFD rescued a male hiker in his teens from the top of the Koko Head trail after he had reportedly fallen ill and was unable to descend the trail on his own. He was treated by HFD and transferred to EMS for further treatment.
