MAUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Following the devastating loss of the community-adored Kula Lodge during a fire on Aug. 11, the establishment is thanking the community for their support during a troubling time.
As a result of the fire, the restaurant and housekeeping department at the lodge were destroyed. The lodges and marketplace were not damaged, however.
Despite there not being any damage to the lodges, the electrical system for the lodges was destroyed in the fire, decommissioning the lodges until further notice.
Patrons will be issued refunds for the inconvenience.
During the rebuilding, guests are still welcome to visit their marketplace but are urged to keep their distance from the main restaurant building and Garden Terrace, with Kula Lodge staff saying it is not safe to be around those areas.
Despite the natural stress that comes with losing an establishment, Kula Lodge thanked their supporters in a Facebook post, saying that community love is what will push them through this.
“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Maui community for all your calls, texts, emails and messages. Your support is what will get us all through this,” the post said. “We are so incredibly sad for this loss and how it’s affecting our staff and neighbors. Please keep us in your prayers as we move forward with our next steps.”
