PUNA, Hawaii (KHON2) — A Puna man was charged with armed robbery, terroristic threatening firearms offenses and more following an armed robbery incident fronting a residence in Kona on May 24, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Water Gomes, 47, allegedly brandished a firearm toward a driver before allegedly taking the vehicle. He was arrested the following day after the vehicle was found in a parking lot.
The suspect’s bail has been maintained at $293,000 following his initial appearance in court on May 27.
Gomes’s most serious offenses are Robbery in the First Degree and Carrying or Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Separate Felony, as they are both Class A felonies and carry a penalty of 20 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say Gomes may also not be eligible for probation.
