Queen’s offers after-hours medical care in your neighborhood

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Accidents and injuries can happen at any time, but they can be especially inconvenient on weekends, when many primary care offices are closed.

Urgent care centers are a great option, offering quick medical assistance, and the Queen’s Island Urgent Care has five locations across O’ahu in Kahala, Kapahulu, Kakaako, Pearl Kai and Ewa Beach. All locations provide care for basic, urgent medical needs.

“That means stitches, colds, flus, broken arms, medication refills that don’t rise to the level of emergency room care,” said Dr. Ronald Black, medical director for the Queen’s Island Urgent Care. “If you need care in less than 24 hours, then Urgent Care is probably appropriate. If you have a life-threatening or limb-threatening condition, you need to go to the emergency room,” Dr. Black said.

If you have chest pain, severe head injury, stroke symptoms, respiratory distress or pregnancy complications, Dr. Black urges patients to go to the emergency room.

“Pretty much everything else can be handled in an Urgent Care setting,” he said.

The most common conditions that doctors treat at the Queen’s Island Urgent Care centers are colds, flu symptoms, cough, bladder infections, lacerations, sprains, strains, and back pain.

The Queen’s Island Urgent Care in Kakaako was recently named the best urgent care center by Honolulu Magazine. Dr. Black said this exceptional team has been working as a cohesive unit for a long time.

“I think all our teams are special. I like to believe that we all strive to put patient care first and with quick, efficient, quality care. And they are certainly an excellent example of that model, and I’m proud to represent them,” Dr. Black said.
