HONOLULU (KHON2) — From the recent shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, to a possible partial government shutdown — the political landscape continues to change. Congressman Ed Case is here in Hawaii to give us an update.
Currently, the country is at risk of a possible partial government shutdown beginning next week, with the White House now threatening mass firings, and Case is optimistic that a spending bill can be passed to prevent this.
“We should be able to pass a spending bill by the deadline. And let’s go back to the basics here. The deadline is Sept. 30. That’s the end of our fiscal year. And if we don’t pass our Appropriations Bills by Sept. 30, or what we call a ‘Continuing Resolution,’ which basically buys us a little bit more time to get those bills passed, then the government starts to shut down because it doesn’t have any money,” Case said. “This is one of our most basic responsibilities, is to keep the government funded. And it takes the house, the senate and the president, to pull it off, and it has to be bipartisan. Because the Republican majority cannot do it on their own, and so we have to have a bipartisan agreement to do this.”
Case is also hosting another tele talk-story on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. Most residents of his district, 1st Congressional, will get a phone call. For more information, head to case.house.gov.
