Rescued highway goat on Maui gives birth to three kids

HAIKU, Maui (KHON2) — A pregnant goat that was stranded on a busy highway in Maui is now a mother of three.

Emily the goat, who was recently rescued on the Kuihelani Highway by Maui Humane Society Officer Emily Skidmore, has given birth to three healthy babies at Leilani Farm Sanctuary.

“After everything she’s been through, Emily’s peaceful delivery is a beautiful full-circle moment,” said Laurelee Blanchard, founder and president of Leilani Farm Sanctuary. “She went from being abandoned and in danger to raising her babies in safety, surrounded by love and the highest level of care.”

Emily first made headlines after someone spotted her walking along the highway. Officer Skidmore responded quickly and took her to the Sanctuary, where she now permanently lives.

“This is why our partnership with Leilani Farm Sanctuary is so critical,” said Nikki Russell, Chief of Operations at the Maui Humane Society. “Emily’s story could have ended very differently. Instead, she’s thriving, and her babies are safe. This is the kind of outcome every animal deserves.”

The baby girl has been named Laura in honor of the driver who spotted her on the highway.
