HONOLULU (KHON2) — Wrapping up Week 3 of college football, Campbell High School graduate and hometown standout Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele continues to shine.
Just two weeks after earning his first Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week award, the Ewa Beach native received the honor again. But this time, he received it after leading California to a 27-14 victory over Minnesota in Berkeley on Saturday.
Sagapolutele was sharp against the Golden Gophers, completing 24-of-38 passes for a career-high 279 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The win pushed the Golden Bears to a perfect 3-0 start.
Through three games, the freshman quarterback is 71-for-106, with a 67% completion percentage, 780 yards, six touchdowns, and only one interception, already ranking seventh in the ACC in completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdown passes, and ninth in passer rating.
Local pride runs deep! Sagapolutele, who once lit up the scoreboard for Campbell High, has become the first Cal true freshman QB to open a season 3-0 while collecting two ACC Rookie of the Week awards in three weeks.
