The subpoena comes after DNA experts connected a new suspect, who is referred to as “Known Male #1,” to the crime after collecting a fork that he discarded and sent it to the lab.

Attorneys fight for evidence to clear Schweitzer brothers in Ireland murder

In a Hilo courtroom appearance on July 30, attorneys for Albert Ian Schweitzer and Shawn Schweitzer argued against a judge for Hawaii police to release all collected evidence against the new suspect, Albert Lauro Jr.

The Schweitzer brothers’ attorneys hope the releasing of new evidence will help clear their clients for their past ties to the Dana Ireland case. One of the brothers was convicted and spent decades in prison, and the other took a plea deal, but each has since been cleared and want the court to declare them “actually innocent.”

If the court approves the request, the Hawaii Police Department will be forced to hand over evidence such as tapes, interviews, devices, communications and more.
