HONOLULU (KHON2) — This weekend, head over to Kahala Mall to catch a glimpse at this year’s Canstruction fundraiser!
Put on by the American Institute of Architects, the annual event collects thousands of cans to be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank.
“This event benefits the Hawaii Foodbank and ohanas statewide,” AIA’s Lisa Nguyen said. “Thousands of cans of food will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. Since its inception, AIA Honolulu’s Canstruction event has gathered 743,690 pounds of canned goods – enough food to make 612,437 meals, and more than $110,000 for the Foodbank. We have come together for two decades to help alleviate hunger.”
Ten teams of architects will put their design and building skills to the test by creating sculptures made entirely out of cans.
“Every single can of food from every project is donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. It’s a great opportunity for the architecture and design community to show off our creations and give back to those in need,” Nguyen said.
Then, it’s up to you to vote for this year’s winner!
Starting this Saturday, Sept. 13, mall goers can cast their vote for their favorite sculpture. The structure that receives the most votes will be named “People’s Choice Award”. Each vote costs a dollar, and voting ends Sept. 20.
