Second suspect charged in Nānākuli shooting that left boy brain dead

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A second set of charges has been issued in the deadly Zablan Beach shooting in Nānākuli that occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 6.

The 19-year-old suspect was charged on Sept. 11, two days after his initial arrest, the Honolulu Police Department said.

Originally, the suspect was classified as a victim — authorities said the man had shown up at a nearby hospital after the shooting, seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

Upon investigation, HPD was able to reclassify him as a suspect, arresting him for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and firearms offenses, according to authorities.

After conferring with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, the suspect was charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, police said.
