HONOLULU (KHON2) — The state Department of Health reported on Oct. 17 that 22 people across Oʻahu’s public schools have fallen sick, potentially from recalled milk.
A recall was ordered for chocolate milk by Meadow Gold, which was distributed to public schools across the island.
Officials said they will work to ensure that all affected products are pulled from schools to avoid further illness.
On Oct. 16, the number of sick individuals was 15, increasing by seven the next day.
“The Hawaiʻi Department of Health has received reports of illness in 22 individuals at nine Oʻahu schools potentially linked to consumption of the recalled Meadow Gold chocolate milk,” the department said. “No hospitalizations have been reported, and investigations are ongoing to confirm whether illnesses are related to the recalled product.”
DOH is collecting samples of the affected milk to conduct tests and examine clinical samples. Initial laboratory testing for bacterial enterotoxin in the samples came back negative, the department said.
