SNAP Community Resource Fair brings support, awareness to public

HONOLULU (KHON2) — In effort to provide the public assistance and important information on SNAP benefits and nutrition, Helping Hands Hawaii held their SNAP Community Resource Fair over the weekend.

The event focused on educating the public about SNAP and other projects that can provide financial, material and language support.


Hawaii SNAP benefits may be increased to reflect food costs

Helping Hands volunteers discussed the following programs:

SNAP Outreach: community can learn and understand eligibility requirements and receive help applying for benefits

SNAP-Ed: Nutrition Education about wellness and healthy eating for students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

Community Clearinghouse: struggling households can access free items such as furniture, cookware, bedding, toiletries and more. Community members can also access empowerment training, financial assistance and school supplies.

Representative Payee Services: Helps those who are experiencing long-term illness, disability or other impairment manage their Social Security benefits

Bilingual Access Line (BAL): those with limited English skills can use these interpretation services either on-site, through phone or video, written translation, or ASL
