HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Raising Cane’s “Going to the Dogs SurFur ComPETition 2024” took place Tuesday in Waikiki.
The dog surfing competition is part of the Duke’s OceanFest, held at Kuhio Beach this week.
Celebrating over 22 years of premier water sports, Duke’s OceanFest is an annual August festival honoring Duke Kahanamoku.
The SurFur ComPETition, which began in 2015 with just four dogs and a pig, has grown continuously throughout the years.
This year, dogs of all breeds and sizes competed in solo and tandem surf contests, with top dogs crowned in each event.
“It’s pretty competitive you know, you want to have a good time, it’s really about more fun for me than competition, I’m out here to celebrate Duke, surf some queens with the pup and just have a good time, catch as many waves as I can you know,” Surfer Todd Waterman said.
