HONOLULU (KHON2) — The suspect involved in the 2022 fatal Tantalus shooting was found guilty by a Circuit Court jury.
In March 2022, law enforcement officials were called to the first lookout of Round Top Drive around 2 a.m. after 22-year-old Nainoa Damon shot and killed an 18-year-old man.
According to Lt. Deena Thoemmes of HPD, Damon drove up to the scenic lookout spot before going up to victim one, pointing a gun at his head and demanding his property.
Victim number two pulled victim one behind him before drawing a firearm and pointing it at the suspect.
Damon then shot victim two in the abdomen before leaving the scene with a front-seat passenger in a white 1998 Toyota Camry.
On Tuesday, Damon was found guilty of Robbery in the First Degree, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, and three firearm offenses.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Anna Ishikawa presented evidence to the jury showing Damon shot Kolona when Kolona tried to stop Damon from robbing a group of teens at the lookout. We commend Honolulu police, the FBI, and investigators here in the Prosecutor’s Office for their work on the case.

The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney revealed that Damon will be sentenced in late August.
Officials said he will be imprisoned for life, with the possibility of parole on the murder charge.
