In partnership with the Honolulu Zoo Society and concessionaire SSA Group, the zoo completed a training program led by KultureCity’s professionals.

Zoo staff were taught practical strategies to assist visitors with a range of conditions such as autism, PTSD, dementia, ADHD, and traumatic brain injuries.

As part of the initiative, the zoo will offer sensory bags for guests to borrow.

These bags include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools and other sensory-friendly items to help visitors manage their experience.

In addition, the zoo has created designated quiet areas and added enhanced signage to better assist those with sensory sensitivities.

“This certification is a big step in helping the Honolulu Zoo offer a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone,” said Mary Benson, Executive Director of the Honolulu Zoo Society. “We are committed to ensuring that all our visitors, regardless of their sensory needs, can have meaningful and accessible experiences at the zoo.”
