HONOLULU (KHON2) — With so many people spending so much time online, the State is encouraging families to unplug.
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, Lt. Gov. Silvia Luke named September as “Digital Aloha Month”, a statewide initiative focused on promoting empathy, kindness and respect in online communities.
“Digital Aloha encourages positivity and respectful online behavior,” said Keli Acquaro from the Department of Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health. “If you see a friend or family member who is struggling with cyberbullying or digital stress, check in and offer support. It may be time for them to take a step back, unplug and reset.”
According to the health department, 78% of high schoolers and 75% of middle schoolers spend three or more hours online daily.
