A low-pressure system is about 500 miles west of Kauai while a high pressure system is located 1400 miles north-northeast of Honolulu. Clouds and showers are primarily over windward and mauka areas this evening, while clouds over leeward areas of Kauai and Oahu are dissipating. Breezy easterly trade winds will persist over the eastern islands tonight, with Oahu and Kauai experiencing moderate east-southeast winds shifting to easterly overnight.
Moderate to breezy easterly trades will extend across the state on Thursday as high pressure gradually moves north of the area. Reinforcing highs will continue to build to the north through early next week, maintaining the moderate to breezy easterly trade winds. Expect drier air to move into the region over the next few days, with dew points returning to near normal by Friday. Weak upper-level low will be replaced by another high pressure system, will usher in a drier and more stable trade wind pattern through the weekend. Windward and mauka showers will increase in intensity and coverage overnight and in the early morning, with a few showers briefly affecting leeward areas. This pattern is expected to continue through the first half of next week.
