Two separate hit-and-runs kill two men on Oʻahu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two individuals died in two different traffic collisions, the Honolulu Police Department said.

The first death stemmed from an accident that took place on Oct. 18 at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Kalākaua Avenue in Waikīkī.

A 44-year-old man was walking down Kalakaua Avenue in a marked crosswalk near Pau Street when he was hit by a 20-year-old male driver, police said.

The driver did not stop to render aid following the collision, HPD said.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services in critical condition, investigators said.

Police later located the driver and arrested him for Collisions Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury.

On Oct. 20, HPD reported that the pedestrian had died, making him the 68th traffic fatality on Oʻahu.

In a separate incident on Oct. 20, a hit-and-run accident involving a motorcyclist was reported on Farrington Highway in Nānākuli.

HPD received report of the collision at approximately 10:05 p.m., and found a 38-year-old motorcyclist who was riding down Farrington Highway when he was hit by an unknown driver.

The driver continued past the scene, without stopping to render aid, HPD said.

The motorcyclist was thrown off of his bike onto the road as a result of the collision. EMS then transported the man to the hospital, where he would later die, police said.

He was not wearing a helmet during the collision, investigators said.

The motorcyclist’s death marks the 69th traffic fatality on the island, compared to 36 at the same time in 2024.
