HONOLULU (KHON2) — We’re now just 10 days away from kickoff to the 2025 University of Hawaii football season. Fans got some welcome news this week that we can watch the broadcasts without pay-per-view.
“It’s been a great week,” Athletics Director Matt Elliott said. “I think all of the feedback we’ve heard has been fantastic. The decision was about really trying to make our games more available, more accessible to the people of Hawaii. I think that exposure, seeing the team in action live in person or on TV, is really going to grow energy around our program.”
UH’s media rights deal with Spectrum expired after last season, but Spectrum will broadcast the upcoming season as a gap year before UH moves to be a full-time Mountain West Conference member in 2026.
“The Mountain West is in the process of negotiating a media package overall for us, so what we’ll learn from that is our assets are all on the table,” Elliott said. “They’re looking at games across all of our sports, and they’ll find partners for us. National partners, potentially some streaming partners as well. Then we’ll see what’s left from that, and we’ll also have a local partner. All of that will come together to create a great experience for our fans,”
Elliott and UH hope that games still attract big crowds to Ching Stadium.
“It just means so much to our student athletes to have that stadium full to reward them for the hard work. When you’re there in person you start to make memories. You start to think about things, like wow this is a special moment I get to share with my family I get to share with the whole community. Ching, when you think about that complex there’s not a bad seat in the house. Everybody has an amazing view of the game, awesome food, we’re going to have great entertainment before the game and I think we’re going to have a really good product on the field.”
