UH takes nation’s best shooting defense on the road

The Big West-leading University of Hawai‘i women’s basketball team heads back to California riding a 14-game winning streak as it opens its final road trip of the regular season.

UH will start the trip by facing-off against UC Riverside (13-14, 9-8) on Thursday, Feb. 27, at SRC Arena in Riverside, Calif. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. PT (4 p.m. HT).

The Rainbow Wahine (20-6, 14-2 Big West) have tied the sixth-longest winning streak in program history and the second longest under head coach Laura Beeman. Hawai‘i secured its 18th 20-win season and fifth under Beeman with a 49-44 home victory over UC San Diego on Feb. 22.

The ‘Bows enter the week with a two-game lead over UC Irvine atop the Big West standings.

Hawai‘i boasts the nation’s top-ranked field-goal percentage defense among NCAA Division I teams, holding opponents to just 32.7% shooting.

Junior forward Imani Perez has been a key anchor for UH’s defensive dominance, averaging 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in Big West play. She has recorded 25 blocks this season and moved into 10th place in program history with 72 career blocks.

The Rainbow Wahine won the first meeting with UC Riverside, 61-47, on Jan. 9 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Highlanders currently sit in seventh place in the conference standings.

Hawai‘i will close out its road trip against UC Davis on Saturday, March 1, at the University Credit Union Center in Davis, Calif. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. PT (noon HT).

Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
