The University of Hawaii Women’s volleyball team took to the court for its first game of the season on Friday. But comes up just short as they fall in 5 sets.
SET 1:
27-25: Hawaii Wins
UH had 16 kills and 3 blocks, holding Marquette to only 14 kills. The Rainbow Wahine were trailing 11-4 early on, but came back and tied the game 18-18.
Outside hitters Tali Hakas and Miliana Sylvester set the tone for the ‘Bows in the first set with eight combined kills.
SET 2:
25-17: Hawaii Wins
The ‘Bows take the 2nd set as it was a neck-and-neck battle until they broke open with a 7 pt. Scoring-run, taking the W.
UH towered over Marquette’s 8 kills with a total of 18 kills.
SET 3:
34-32: Marquette Wins
The Rainbow Wahine fall short as they try to catch up to Marquette in the 4th set. Hawaii Trailed 22 to 18 in the set to force it into extra points. UH had 5 chances to close out the frame but was unable to secure the frame win.
SET 4:
25-18: Marquette Wins
Hawaii only tallied 8 kills while Marquette finished with 18 in the frame. The Rainbow Wahine after dropping the 3rd set, only had a hitting percentage of 0.063 from the floor in the 4th.
SET 5:
15-9: Marquette Wins
In the 5th and final set, Hawaii trailed 6-2, but managed to tie it up at 9 a piece, but Marquette went on a 6-0 run to win the match.
Tali Hakas finished with 17 kills in the match, while Miliana Sylvester finished with 14 and Stella Adeyemi added 10.
The Rainbow Wahine will take on the Utah State Aggies on Saturday at 7 p.m.
