KULA, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Maui Fire Department responded to an overnight fire in Upcountry Maui in Kula.
The CEO of Kula Lodge & Restaurant confirmed that it was their restaurant that was damaged by the fire.
KHON2 is waiting on more details from the fire department regarding the incident.
Residents who live nearby said they heard or smelled smoke around 3:15 a.m. and called 911.
Several units responded to the fire.
Stephanie Mallek, Kula Lodge & Restaurant CEO, told KHON2 that the Kula Marketplace is still standing and was not impacted by the overnight fire. She said they will be opening the Marketplace at noon on Monday, Aug. 11, and it will maintain normal business hours.
She said the fire was contained to the restaurant, and they are waiting on more information from MFD as to what caused the fire.
She adds that no one was injured, and the best thing people can do for them right now is to help support them by shopping at the Marketplace.
