HONOLULU (KHON2) — A town hall is set to take place on Wednesday, January 15, to discuss concerns about the proposed landfill site northwest of Wahiawā and its potential environmental impacts.
The community meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wahiawā Elementary School Cafeteria and aims to provide local residents with a platform to voice their concerns about the landfill’s effects on water aquifers, agricultural land, and the overall environment in Central Oahu.
“Our community still has many unanswered questions about this proposed landfill, and this town hall will give us a chance to speak up,” said Rep. Perruso. “We deserve transparency in this process and to understand how it could impact our environment.”
Councilmember Weyer added, “This is our chance to stay informed and engage with the decision-making process. Together, we can protect Oahu’s water sources and safeguard our environment for future generations.”
Panelists for the event will include Sharon Hurd, Chairperson of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture; Ernie Lau, Manager of the Board of Water Supply; Daniel Nellis, General Manager of Dole Food Company Hawaii; and Jonathan Scheuer, former Chair of the Hawaii Land Use Commission.
The town hall is open to all community members who are concerned about the proposed landfill and its potential consequences.
