Waikīkī power outage impacts stop lights, traffic

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A power outage in Waikīkī left traffic signals on some of the busiest roads on the island without electricity on Oct. 29, the Honolulu Police Department said.

The affected area spans from the McCully Street and Kalakaua Avenue intersection down to the Ala Moana Boulevard and Hobron Lane intersection.

Hawaiian Electric was notified, and emergency repairs to the electrical vault will be required, HPD said.

There was a similar outage in the area on Oct. 28, with the cause of at least one outage attributed to a rodent in the electrical equipment, Hawaiian Electric said.

Officers will be assigned to monitor and direct traffic during the outage from noon to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29.
