HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction announced that they will begin reconstruction on the Waimānalo Beach Park Pavilion on Oct. 14.
The original structure’s size and character will be reimagined with the reconstruction, after it was originally demolished in 2019 due to structural concerns.
The new pavilion is set to consist of concrete support and walls to ensure stability, as well as seating in the pavilion for events.
Additionally, the pavilion will offer shelter from the rain or other harsh conditions, which can be utilized by everyday parkgoers or special celebrations.
This reconstruction project is a part of the Department of Parks and Recreation’s goal to “add quality to life,” as the pavilion will provide a space for recreation and a pleasant experience.
The total construction is estimated to cost approximately $1.49 million, with the design costing approximately $330,137.
During construction, the parking lot will stay open, but the construction zone will be fenced off. Officials anticipate a bit of noise pollution to occur during the construction.
Work will be conducted Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is expected to be concluded by next summer.
