HONOLULU (KHON2) — During Saturday’s Laulima Day, you’ll find KHON2 anchors and reporters fanned out at malls across the state emceeing entertainment programs as a thank-you to all who stop by to donate.
Windward Mall’s Winter Wonderland and Gingerbread ‘Ohana Festival return. For just a $10 donation, receive a kit that includes a pre-built gingerbread house with decorations for you to place as you please.
“Pick up a gingerbread house to help support the program and the families and then go and have a beautiful photo session with your family in the winter wonderland. It’s gonna be a giant, looks like a giant igloo is what it is in all different colors and with all our inflatables and everything for winter wonderland inside,” said Momi Akakna, Executive Director of Keiki O Ka Aina.
At all the malls, volunteers will be accepting new items and monetary donations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Bring an unwrapped gift, bring the kids, teach them how to give back to the community and come and have some fun yourself in winter wonderland,” said Akana.
Your donations go to families, individuals, keiki, kupuna and non-profits. There are many asking for help this year.
“We also donate to schools because throughout the year they need help with different kinds of things. We’ve given tons of slippers and help with school supplies. But there are lots of organizations that call laulima for help.”
You’ll find music and dance entertaining you throughout the day, your emcees will be KHON2’s anchors and reporters.
