HONOLULU (KHON2) — National Chicken Tender Day is this Sunday, July 27. It’s a fun day to enjoy one of America’s favorite foods: crispy, crunchy, juicy chicken tenders! People across Hawaiʻi will celebrate by eating chicken tenders from their favorite restaurants.
So, KHON2.com’s Sandy’s Suggestions unit decided to do a bit of exploration to Honolulu’s crunchiest, most flavorful chicken tenders. And we found them!
Overlord Chicken, located at 726 Kapahulu Avenue, served us some of the tastiest fried chicken tenders we’ve ever had.
The breading was hot and crispy, almost reminiscent of mochiko or katsu chicken, but even better. And the flavor was out of this world. Their secret? They use dark meat instead of white meat.
Now, we have always had an affinity for white meat chicken tenders; but Overlord Chicken has changed how we understand and enjoy these crispy tenders of chicken.
The price for a package of four chicken tenders is only $5.99. It comes with five chicken tenders and a tangy ranch sauce — that almost tastes more like Mississippi comeback sauce — and a sweet and sour barbeque sauce. And the tenders come in regular or spicy options as well as combo choices.
The atmosphere is clean and clear; and the menu is heavy of many chicken options. They make chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken, spicy wings and chicken rolls. They even various options for whole fried chickens.
The staff is friendly and informative, and they’re open late for those looking for a yummy snack after a night out.
