HONOLULU (KHON2) — State Representatives Lisa Kitagawa and Scot Z. Matayoshi hosted the fifth annual Castle Complex School Supply Drive at Windward Mall on July 12, with supplies going to keiki and teachers.
The drive is done in partnership with the Castle Alumni/Community Association, Windward Mall and several other Kaneʻohe-based organizations.
Monetary donations, as well as supplies like pencils, erasers, folders and more, are accepted at the drive and benefit local learners.
“As we mark the fifth year of this drive, our mission remains the same: to ensure our keiki have the necessary tools for success and to support teachers with the resources they need to help students thrive,” Kitagawa said.
For Matayoshi, the drive is especially important as it helps relieve some weight off of teachers’ shoulders — and pockets.
“Our teachers often go above and beyond, many even paying out of pocket for classroom supplies, so it’s especially meaningful to hear how much this drive has made a difference,” Matayoshi said.
The drive is continuing into July 13 at Windward Mall.
