MAUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — An officer-involved shooting occurred in Pukalani after the Maui Police Department responded to a call reporting abuse at approximately 3:46 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Officers arrived on the scene within 10 minutes, where they were met with a woman armed with an edged weapon, according to MPD.
The shooting occurred during the incident in which officers encountered the woman, resulting in a fatality. While MPD has yet to officially identify the individual who died, they did confirm that there were no other injuries reported at the scene.
Per standard procedure, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
This is an active investigation, with MPD saying there will be a formal briefing in the coming week.
