Landon McNamara honored by Hawaii House after Eddie Aikau win

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational winner Landon McNamara was honored Wednesday by the Hawaii House of Representatives during a floor presentation at the state Capitol.

McNamara claimed victory in the prestigious big wave contest in December, cementing his place in surfing history.

“When someone from the North Shore wins the Eddie, it gives our entire community that incredible burst of pride, that feeling of hope and optimism to keep the championship belt on the North Shore. One of our homegrown talents. We are all just so, so proud of his accomplishments,” said Rep. Sean Quinlan (D-Haleiwa, Waimea, Kahuku).

McNamara, who is the first “goofy foot” surfer to win the prestigious contest — meaning he surfs with his right foot forward — continues to be celebrated for his historic achievement.
