Oahu child infected with measles makes full recovery

HONOLULU (KHON2) — According to the Department of Health, the Oahu child who contracted measles has made a full recovery.

The child was the first case reported on Oahu in 2025 and officials said the child’s family member also experienced similar symptoms.

The family member is considered a measles case, but it has not been confirmed due to the Hawaii resident traveling out of state.

State officials said the child was unvaccinated, but they are unable to confirm the vaccination status of the adult.

DOH officials have compiled a list of locations where people may have been exposed to measles.

  • March 30 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport between 10:50 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the C gates, customs and baggage claim areas
  • April 1 at Manoa Valley District Park Art Class between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • April 4 at Queen’s Island Urgent Care Kapahuhu between 8 a.m. to noon
  • April 4 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport at Terminal 2 departures, TSA checkpoints and gate area for Delta Flight 309 to Atlanta, Ga.

With the rise of measles cases, doctors highly recommend everyone to talk to their healthcare professional regarding the measles vaccine.

Both Governor Josh Green M.D. and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy recommend everyone get vaccinated following the measles outbreak in Texas.

Currently, Hawaii only has an 89% measles vaccination rate.

If an outbreak were to occur in the islands, health officials said it would take up rooms in hospitals and put a strain on already limited resources.
